Easy enough...Would they somehow be at a disadvantage if they weren't at the meeting? If it's a critical meeting, they'll show up. If it's not, they won't. Should it be any other way?

Henry Ford didn't institute this system. It only happens after the bean counters take over a successful enterprise. Then, there they are with their stop watches and flow charts. Any employee who truly tried to log in each different type of work or customer on whose account (order, shipment, correspondence, etc.) they worked on in a week should need the next week to fill in all the entries on a time sheet. Then it all gets fed into a 'database' and reports are printed, numbers crunched and they find they could have saved $12.42 that week. Of course they never figure in that it cost $3000 in accounting and accountant costs to find out that $12.42 was 'lost' by a minimum wage earner.

You mean kind of like the fact that we all have to go through airport security now because 19 illegal misfits blew up 3 airplanes and several buildings back in 2001? Or have to deal with the downright oppressive Patriot Act that denies us all our civil rights?

Indeed, 100 is 93 words too many, but you have to ease the "I can't"s into reason by giving them an initial target within range.

I wish I could say that this was hyperbole, but I've seen too many examples that are way beyond even the 100 word mark.

Thanks for the link back to my article, and great point about the importance of knowing your topic. I think you're right - that really is at the root of many bad PowerPoint issues.

Of course, I would also argue that 100 words on a slide is about 93 too many.
