Istanbul Was Once Constantinople

There are moments in which you are sitting in a meeting, fully hearing the words being said, but your brain absolutely refuses to acknowledge any connection to any of the things being said, reality, and anything you know/care about.

This is as good a time as any to respond to any prompting with “Istanbul was once Constantinople”. Is this a complete non sequitur? Or is making the bold statement that, much like Constantinople, we will have left an impression behind by what we do here, but the useful frameworks created by us will be, much like the Hagia Sophia, used in a similar vein but also in ways foreign to us, the architects of those frameworks? That some of the structures we build will make future generations scratch their heads at why they exist other than, “That’s always been here.”

I guess the lesson here is focus on important structures, not small artifacts.

Or maybe just randomly quote They Might Be Giants in a meeting that bores you.
